Test your broadband speed
Check your download speed, upload speed and latency in your browser, then use our tips to get a result you can rely on.
Press start when you are ready. The test takes around 20 seconds.
The test runs on Cloudflare's speed test servers, so Cloudflare sees your IP address while it runs, as with any website you visit. We do not see or keep your results. Results in a browser can read lower than your real speed on very fast connections, especially over WiFi.
How to get a fair result
- Use a cable if you can. Plug a computer into your router with a network cable. WiFi speeds depend on distance, walls and the device, so a WiFi test shows your WiFi, not your broadband.
- Pause everything else. Stop downloads, streaming, backups and updates on other devices while you test.
- Test a few times. Try at different times of day, including the evening, and look at the pattern rather than one result.
- Use a recent device. Older computers, phones and network adaptors may not be able to reach full fibre speeds.
- Restart your router if results are much lower than usual, then test again.
What the results mean
- Download is how fast data reaches you: web pages, streaming, downloads and opening cloud files.
- Upload is how fast data leaves you: your side of video calls, sending files and cloud backups.
- Latency is how long data takes to make a round trip, in milliseconds. Lower is better, and it matters most for video calls and online gaming.
If your speed is lower than expected
Compare a wired result with the speeds in your Contract Summary, including any minimum speed. If wired tests are regularly below what you expected, contact us on 0191 543 3564 or support@cyberfibre.uk and we will look into it. If only WiFi is slow, better WiFi coverage may be the answer.
